I'm so honoured! :-)

Last week I found myself in 2 of my favourite blogs: Art Journal and Nanjodogz

The first I found myself in just by chance. The night before I was discussing the difference between wearable art and artisan jewellery with a friend, and although I tend to be able to distinguish between the 2 in my mind, I was having a harder time explaining it to him. Well this post explaines it so much better than I ever could! :-) and she uses my Ancient Cuff as example of the difference between the 2.... I'm soo honoured, thank you Nicole!!! If you are interested about the difference go check it out: Defining Art Jewelry - Six Simple Rules. Also go and visit Nicole's shop and see some beautiful jewellery, here is an example of her work:

As mentioned above, I found myself in 2 blogs, the second one by Nanjodogz, who makes the most adorable polymer clay sculptures, pendants, tiles and beads various dog breeds (see example below). Go visit Nanjodogz's blog and shop to see more! Don't forget to stop by and read http://nanjodogz.blogspot.com/2008/07/triz.html

Again thank you both for featuring my work!!!! :-)

Purple Balagan

Purple Balagan 01 copyI have been meaning to make a second bead-embroidered cuff since I finished my first one (Ancient Cuff) a while ago... and here it is!!!!

I guess I tend to be a bit of a control-freak when it comes to my designs.... but here I set out to free myself from the constraints of following rigid specific ideas to really allowing myself to go wild and almost do the opposite of what I would have usually done... and that is how my Purple Balagan came about. Balagan is a word used around here to describe a bit of a mess/confusion/chaos... but not in a derogative way... or at least I don't understand it in a negative manner :-) it's actually one of my favourites words... it's a fun word.... therefore befitting my cuff :-)

How much fun was that!!!! so much fun!!! I almost felt as though I was painting rather than beading... does that make any sense?... I absolutely LOVED making this piece and can't wait to make another cuff as soon as I finished working on my current bead-embroidered necklace... stay tuned! :-)

Almost made it to the party....

My gorgeous Ethan celebrated his 4th birthday 2 days ago... and all was well... I spent the day shopping for the ingredients to make the cake, candles and all the other stuff needed for the party at the kindergarten later on this morning.... then I picked him up from kindergarten at 3.30 pm and took him to the pool with my friend, his daughter, my sister and 3 of her 4 kids... after a couple of hours in the water, we all went together for a celebratory family dinner.... and Ethan had a lovely day! :-)

Last night, my friend and I stayed up till past midnight making Ethan's cake.... He was in charge of the cutting out and basic shaping of the cake into an aeroplane, which was Ethan's choice for this year's birthday cake... and I was in charge of the kneading and handling of the sugar-paste.....

I think both of us were very proud of the results.... we worked pretty well as a cake-making team :-) and after almost 6 hours of kneading, cutting, shaping, taking photos of our masterpiece.... and of course, standing on our feet, we finally sit down to relax... and that is when it starts... my poor little baby crying out for his mummy.... and my son is not one to ever wake up in the middle of the night.... so there I am, 1 am and I find myself changing bed sheets and pyjamas because the poor little soul is puking his little guts out!!!... talk about bad timing! There's some form of 24 hour stomach bug going around at his kindergarten.... and yeah, seems like the poor thing has caught it.... It's now 6.30 am.... and after 3 bed changes.... the disappointment is starting to surface in both of us.... I just spoke to his teacher and we are going to wait an hour see how he is doing and if from now to then he doesn't vomit, maybe we will take him to the kindergarten just for the 45 minutes party and cake sharing.... I feel so sorry for him... he's been looking forward to this for weeks...

In the meantime... here is the cake that may never see the light of day.... and although it was a lot of fun making, I really hope I don't have to make another one for next week... :-)

Purple Flower - Finally finished!!! :-)

I started this piece in around April , and although the actual flower was finished and the necklace part started, I just could not get my head around finishing it. I seriously had a mental block against beading the band in herringbone stitch, but finally this week-end I literally hid in my bedroom and put my mind to finishing it... and am so glad I did!!! finally!!!! :-) I am terrible.... I get bored so easily!!! so the prospect of beading not one but 2 plain long bands was just more than I could take! :-) but once I put my mind to it, I really got into it, of course I was in front of the telly catching up with all the programs I missed during the week... and the next thing I know.... it's actually finally finished!!! :-) I have to say.... this piece looks so amazing on!!! I must find a model for it.... my 6' something houseguest is a bit too hairy to carry it off :-) + am not sure he would do it anyway ;-) but in the meantime.... here it is!!!!
