Tribal Dance… gone wrong!

This post is not what I was expecting to write today…. in fact, completely the opposite.  I was going to write all about my new soutache necklace and how it took me two and a half weeks to make it… how the design developed… how I felt as though I was giving birth throughout the process… and the excitement of having given birth to this piece… and how happy I was with how it turned out.

Well this morning as the sun came out I took photos of my new piece… worked on them… and was just about to write a description for my listing… when I noticed some of the turquoise beads peeling!?!?  At first I thought it was a bit of fluff… so i tried to wipe them gently with my fingers…. and then the realization that two and a half weeks of intensive labour had just gone down the toilet!!!! Upset???? that would be the understatement of the year!!!! I’m literally fuming!!!!  I guess my only comfort is that they peeled before it was sold and shipped… I would have been mortified to have sold a piece and found out that the colour of the beads had peeled off after the customer had received it!!!
So here is the necklace (prior peeling):

Tribal Dance 01

I was so, SO pleased with it…. and here is a close up of the part that started to peel (see turquoise rectangular beads, bottom 2 have peeled to white):

Tribal Dance 05

I guess what I will do is peel off the rest of the turquoise beads, so that they are all white and keep this piece for myself :-)  at least I’ll get to use the necklace… and it will look great on me this summer :-)  as for those pesky turquoise beads…. the dustbin seems like an appropriate place for them!!!!

as for me…. I’m calling it a day and am going to hide under my duvet!!!

  2. OMG..that is just so wrong. Thank goodness you did see it before it was sold. I'm so upset for you. I can't imagine all that work & then BAM! Well at least you can wear that lovely piece of jewelry.

  3. Oh my...it once happened to me that the color(a bright pink)vanished while beading...just touching the beads.
Luckily the necklace will be beautiful also with "white" beads!

  4. Your necklace is gorgeous. You must be heart broken about the peeling beads.

  5. Well first off the piece is amazing as that is what I would expect from you. Nothing less. LOL
I am sorry about the beads pealing but you are right better now than after you sold it.
    Take a deep breath.

  6. I don't know if my first comment went through. The necklace is amazing and this is only what I would expect from you. Sorry you had trouble with the beads, however, as you said better now than after you sold it.

    1. LOL. Sorry Nicole! I love Triz's necklace. The second one is really beautiful, too. Of course it can't be the same joy to bead after this unfortunate disaster. However I think the faded necklace is very beautiful too. Anna Koponen Laine

  7. Thank you all so much! :-)
PiPa: Pink is a really problematic colour (and I've tried loads of shades... they all fade), not sure why... now I only use pink crystals or Czech pressed glass when I want to add pink to a piece :-)
Nicole, yes absolutely better now... I would have been a million times more upset if it happened after!!! am breathing :-)

  9. Your necklace is so beautiful too! I know how you feel. You think you are buying good quality beads, then they go and chip, peal, or fade on you. I once had some beads that literally crumbled as they aged. No Fun! These things unfortunately happen to almost all of us.

  10. Phooey Triz. It's a beautious design and I am so sad for your turquoise peeling bead problems. I agree, they are destined for the dustbin ASAP! It does have a tribal quality and maybe it's not a crisis that some of the beads are white. Or maybe you can peel them all back to white. Sad, but it would be beautiful, peeling or not!!!
