Flaming Wall Flower

flaming wall flower 05 copy

Finally managed to finish the bracelet I started a few days ago using those gorgeous large Delica beads.... and for some reason I seem to be stuck on making those brick-stitched flowers I've been making lately... but it works so well with this bracelet that I couldn't help myself!!! :-)

I'm quite happy with how the actual bracelet turned out!!! and it looks so much nicer, more vibrant and luscious in real life... but what I'm really unhappy with is my photography!!! yuck... and these are  the best of over 150 shots I took....  I just found it really hard to photograph the red and purple!!!  If anyone out there knows what I'm doing wrong or has any advice for photographing these 2 colours then please, please, leave me a comment with your suggestions, because I'm at my wits ends... and it's not the first time I had problems with these colours... I tried taking the photo in the flat, outside, in the shade, in more shade... although I must say the darker the shade the better it looked... but am still not very happy with the results... at least the bracelet turned out pretty nice!!! :-)

So unless someone can suggest how I can improve on photographing these 2 colours, I may have to stop beading using this combination, and I have to say, that would be a tragedy as it is one of my favourite colour combinations!!!!

  1. vibrant color combination !
I love those two colors together.
Red (as well as green, as I understand it) is a pretty difficult color to take good pictures of, because the rendition never turns out so good with digital cameras.
There must be a more technical solution to your problem, but one suggestion would be to enhance the color saturation a little bit with a simple photo editor.
It also might be worth to try different lighting, in hope to find your camera's "sweet spot" for the color red.
I'm not sure this will help but...
    Have a nice day !

  2. Beautiful beadwork. I love the colors! I wish I had the patience for that sort of beadwork, but no dice.

  4. Lovely. I have the best luck with red/purple combos on bright but overcast & cloudy days on a grey background. But it doesn't always work...

  7. Triz - It's wonderful! Those brick stitch flowers are pretty cool.

As for photographing purple, it's one of the most difficult colors to photograph accurately. I've had the best luck taking shots in the shade and then manipulating them to get them just right. In a few cases, I've used a black background and then enhanced the red so the purple didn't wind up looking so blue. That's worked out pretty well, although I still cringe every time I know I need to photograph purple. :-)

  10. I'm not a photographer by any stretch, but when colors aren't turning out right, I usually check my white balance. Look at your camera's owner's manual about how to set the white balance - then try again. The photo actually looks great - are the colors not showing true?

  11. Thank you all for your kind comments and suggestions!!! :-) I do dread photographing these colours... and no the colours of the actual bracelet are so much more vibrant and contrasting, I manipulated the images as much as I could to get a close idea of the real colour but am unhappy at how flat the colour of both the bracelet and the background turned out... but it will have to do :-) hopefull the next red/purple piece i make will photograph better :-)

  16. WOW...what a smashing piece of jewelry you have created...like a flaming sunset on a hot, hot Summer night ...gorgeous...

I had the same problem w/ pink crystals that just would not come out pink...they were purple...there are some really excellent suggestions here that I will consider as well!!!

  17. Oh please don't stop using this color combination, no matter how bad you think the photo's have turned out! It is simply incredible how it looks in the photo... imagine how the buyer will feel when it looks even better in real life!

  18. I just created a purple and copper cuff. If I get the purple right in the photographs, the copper turns to gold. To get the copper right, the purple turns to blue. I finally settled on an (un)happy medium. sigh. You have my empathy. I do, however, think that this piece looks pretty spectacular as is...it must be out-of-this-world-gorgeous if these photos are poor. :)

I understand about the photography...I'm sorry I can't help you...like you I take picture after picture of pieces in the hopes of one turning out presentable...I've come to the conclusion I need to take a course in photography!!! :0)

    Cheers
