My friends and family have been going on at me to make smaller jewellery... this is not and easy thing for me to do... although I'm not tall (5' 5") I have HUGE shoulders (years of swimming + genetics), I've always battled with my weight, so little tiny delicate pieces sort of get lost on me and.... I simply like big jewellery!!!! :-)
But I listened to my friends and decided to attempt creating smaller pieces.... so this weekend... while nursing yet another cold (have I mentioned my dislike for winter) I sat on my bed and made lots of little flowers in lots of different bright colours in an attempt to create something with them that was smaller than my usual.... and here are the results of those efforts :-)
Both necklaces are made with the same flowers. The flowers were brick-stitched using Delica and Czech seed beads around Swarovski crystal pearls. The green/fuchsia flower on the right is a variation of the other flowers, I just added some Swarovski fuchsia crystals on the outside (see, it's so hard for me to just stop, it needs to grow! :-D). ... Both necklaces were made with gold and nickel plated base metal chokers that I bought from my favourite bead supplier Bogal Ltd. These chokers are so cool! you can undo the bobble at the top and bead them, which is exactly what I did... funny thing I didn't know you could do that when I bought them, but am so glad I discovered that to be a possibility! :-)
I have about 4 more flowers that are screaming to be made up into something, I see more variations of this necklace coming up.... stay tuned! :-)
Oh yes, and almost forgot.... the left one with the blue flowers is my entry for the Tropical Holiday January/February EtsyBeadweaver Challenge.... voting starts on the 9th February... I will post more details nearer the time...
In the meantime... let me know what you think... are you a big or small jewellery person?
Happy beading everyone!!! :-)
That necklace is so pretty Triz! Well I think i am more of a big jewelry person, i like bold pieces, although I am not a big girl...barely 5'2"! Sometimes smaller jewelry is nice tho...especially if it has real diamonds!!!!slari
ReplyDeleteLove the flower chokers. I too am a big jewelry person - small and dainty just isn't happening for me - but when you sell I guess you need to consider stuff like that. I did a show once and 3 woman could not fit in to one of my bracelets - I seem to make them all my size!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am tiny, 4'10", hence, the jewelry, delicate and smaller...so, I too have had to stretch to make things just a bit bigger...the opposite of what you have done...they are just gorgeous...love love love the colors!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love your work! (hope this didn't duplicate, it hiccuped)
ReplyDeleteThe new necklaces are lovely, but I am partial to your larger pieces...
ReplyDeleteI do have to admit for someone who makes jewelry I tend to wear very simple pieces silver pieces with a pendant...but for the shows and markets I find chunky one and two strand necklaces made with gemstones sell very well, as do large pendants. So big and chunky it is for my little corner of the world!
Hope you feel better soon...I'm with you I dislike winter too!!!
Cheers
They're lovely!
ReplyDeleteTriz, I absolutely LOVE these necklaces! The flowers are beautiful, and I love how you've combined the different beads in each. You have proven that you can work on a smaller scale and still produce something glorious ;) They are perfect for the Etsy Beadweavers challenge...best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm rather average in height (5' 7") so I wear both chunky and dainty jewellery. Although with a 15 month old daughter who likes to destroy jewellery, I'm lucky if I even get to wear ANY these days! LOL
oh wow! i should ask questions more often :-) first of all thank you all... and Amy, funny, for some strange reason I thought you to be a very tall woman (5' 9"++) almost amazonian :-) and thought I at 5' 5" would be tiny in comparison to Americans... my perception is a bit out of synch, I guess :-)
ReplyDeleteTriz, these flowers are really nice and seeing them on a picture they seem to be just that medium size that I love. I tend to make small and medium size jewelry, but even if my beading experience is very short I’ve been asked already to make bigger pieces. Maybe I just need to dare more !
ReplyDeleteI like them both, your jewelry is fantastic small or big, it doesn't matter to me.
ReplyDeleteI like what you made out of your petals (yes, I remember.)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm a small jewelry person, but most people I know want big jewelry! And it's hard for me to work big! I succumb by using big beads. But you...you're always using small beads! Something to think about...
oh no :-) the petals are still on my table (*blushing in utter embarassment*) I think they will stay there for a really long time and thank you all!!! :-)
